{"id":155,"date":"2009-03-21T02:09:48","date_gmt":"2009-03-21T01:09:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amikkelsen.com\/?p=155"},"modified":"2009-03-21T02:09:48","modified_gmt":"2009-03-21T01:09:48","slug":"problems-uninstalling-vmware-tools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amikkelsen.com\/?p=155","title":{"rendered":"Problems uninstalling VMware Tools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To night I had problems with uninstalling VMware Tools in a VM after updating to the latest ESX release.<\/p>\n<p>The uninstaller kept asking me to insert the &#8220;VMWare Tools&#8221; disk and click OK&#8221;.<br \/>\nIn the popup window there is pull-down field labeled &#8220;Use Source&#8221; and in this field is the number one (&#8220;1&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>If I tried to browse to the the &#8220;VMware Tools.msi&#8221; it returns an error: &#8220;The file &#8216;X:\\VMware Tools.msi&#8217; is not a valid installation package for the product VMware Tools&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The solution I used to get around this problem was simply:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the registry<\/li>\n<li>Locate &#8220;[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Installer\\Products\\8E24D35BB278E034284D0860A513CF1E&#8221; and delete it.<br \/>\n(If you don&#8217;t want to delete it, just rename it or make a backup first)<\/li>\n<li>Run the VMware Tools installation again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>And wola it nor works \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To night I had problems with uninstalling VMware Tools in a VM after updating to the latest ESX release.
